Elementary Teacher - Second Grade

Who We Are

The Met Christian Academy is a private Chrisitan school located in Northwest Houston at The MET Church.  We have Lamb School, the early childhood center, and an elementary school. At TMCA, we want to joyfully partner with families to instill a love for God’s word and an eagerness to learn in the hearts of their children. We want to help young children grow spiritually, socially, emotionally, physically, and intellectually.

 

The Met Christian Academy offers classes for ages 6 months – 2nd grade currently, including extended care offerings.  We incorporate enrichment classes into our weekly schedules such as Music & Movement, Spanish and our Discovery lab.

Essential Duties

Responsibilities for Instructional Planning:

  • Translate the school’s curriculum maps into specific objectives for lessons suitable to the age level and developmental needs of your students.
  • Discern and implement the use of curricular materials and plan teaching/learning experiences that help each student achieve the stated objectives.
  • Effectively construct units that help students see wholeness and relevance in learning.
  • Create and identify lessons that connect biblical principles to concepts about God’s world.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching strategies to match the learning styles of the students.
  • Choose content that helps students see the variety and the integrity of God’s creation.
  • Proactively select the means of assessment to measure students’ learning for a lesson or unit.

Expectation of Classroom Instruction:

  • Effective class time management utilizing activities that engage students’ attention and have clear purpose.
  • Provide intentional directions and well-organized examples and explanations.
  • Listen carefully to students’ ideas and apply them to the lesson.
  • Use questions and explanations that promote clear thinking and build awe in students.
  • Show interest and wonder in all learning through gestures, body movement, and voice inflection.

Management of Student Relations:

  • Compose useful analogies to connect what students are learning to what they have already learned.
  • Establish a climate of love and care.
  • Define responsible Christian behavior for students, including guidelines and consequences for good and bad behavior in the classroom.
  • Help students learn self-discipline through appropriate encouragement, correction, chastening, and counseling.
  • Provide organized learning that helps students support and learn from each other.
Qualifications
  • You are a fully committed follower of Jesus Christ.
  • You faithfully attend a local church whose fundamental beliefs are in agreement with The MET Church and the Statement of Faith of this school.
  • You possess a sufficient biblical knowledge which informs the teaching of every subject matter from a Christian worldview.
  • Has a valid Texas State teaching certificate in early childhood education.
  • Willing to acquire ACSI teaching certificate within a year of teaching at Lamb School.
  • Holds a bachelor’s degree or higher in education.
  • 2 years teaching experience in early childhood education strongly preferred
  • You will accept and support the policies of Lamb School, its educational philosophy, and objectives.
  • You can demonstrate a collaborative approach with administrators, faculty, staff, students, and parents.
  • You can communicate, both verbally and written, with integrity, excellence, and effectiveness.
Schedule and Requirements

This is a full-time, exempt position.  TMCA holds classes late August through May.  Teachers will not work June and July but must be available in August for Lamb School training and preparation for the upcoming school year (work schedule and dates to be outlined in teacher’s contract).

Essential Duties

The Lamb School Assistant Teacher should be cheerful, enthusiastic, and outgoing with a desire to serve and disciple the body of Christ by caring for those with whom they encounter daily. This person co-teaches in the classroom alongside another teacher.

The Lamb School Teacher Assistant duties include:

  • Support a daily schedule of activities utilizing the Activity Plan developed by the Lead Teacher
  • Assist with classroom record-keeping, to include daily sign in/out and monthly attendance records as required by state licensing.
  • Supervise assigned students daily to ensure development and safety.
  • Ensure cleanliness and safety of the classroom and playground.
  • Inventory classroom equipment, replenish supplies, and return all unused supplies to the resource room.
  • Prep materials for classroom teacher.
  • Substitute teach when Lead Teacher is out.
  • Communicate necessary classroom information to parents and supervisory staff and maintain professional conduct.
  • Model positive guidance techniques and is able to explain the program’s mission and vision to parents and prospective families.
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings and serve at Open Houses, Preview events and school programs per the school calendar.
  • Maintain discipline and control in classroom while providing a Christian atmosphere.
  • Keep current knowledge of and comply with criteria as outlined by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services Minimum Standards for Child Care facilities.
  • Must acquire 24 hours of training per year as defined by The Texas Minimum Standards for Child Care Licensing.
  • Exude Christ-like behavior by supporting and serving (supervisors, fellow staff, parents, and students).
Qualifications
  • You are a fully committed follower of Jesus Christ.
  • You faithfully attend a local church whose fundamental beliefs are in agreement with The MET Church and the Statement of Faith of this school.
  • You must be 19 years of age and have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • You have 6 months of related experience in a licensed childcare facility and or/church ministry environments.
  • You must comply with criteria defined in 746.1107 of the Texas Minimus Standards for Child Care Licensing.
  • You will accept, abide and support the policies of Lamb School, its educational philosophy, and objectives.
  • You demonstrate a collaborative approach with administrators, faculty, staff, students, and parents.
  • You communicate, both verbally and written, with integrity, excellence, and effectiveness.

 

Schedule and Requirements

This is a part-time, hourly position not to exceed 29 hours/week.  Lamb School holds classes September through May.  Teachers must be available in August for Lamb School training and preparation for the upcoming school year. Teacher contracts are evaluated following each completed school year and are not a guarantee of renewal and ongoing employment.  The schedule varies depending on the number of days and hours contracted.
